Parent policy

Parents of children who participate in Warwick Youth Basketball shall maintain behavior that reflects positively and promotes good sportsmanship. Parents have the following responsibilities:

  • Abide by the rules established by Metro West, RIYBA, Warwick PAL, the President and the Advisory Board, including zero tolerance of inappropriate or disrespectful behavior towards players, coaches, opposing parents and officials.

  • Promote team unity and support decisions made by the coaching staff, including playing time.

  • Be respectful on Social Media. Any negative posts and/or comments directed at a coach, player or parent will not be tolerated and could result in a suspension or termination from the WYB program.

  • Respect that all team practices are for players and coaches only.

WYB’s philosophy is to provide a fun filled safe experience for travel basketball.

We encourage players, coaches, officials, and spectators to respect each other and the game by creating a positive enthusiast environment. Poor sportsmanship by parents, family members and spectators will not be tolerated.

It is a WYB head coach’s discretion to terminate a game if any threatening statements are made, and/or a spectator enters the court or bench area without permission.

Failure to comply with the Parent Policy will result in suspension or termination from attending future games.

Let’s make this a true youth experience for all!

Play Fair. Play Well.”

*When at all possible, the team benches should be on the opposite side of the court across from the spectators.

How to handle a conflict between parents and the coaching staff?

  • If a conflict arises, parents must communicate with the head coach privately by phone. We encourage parents to set up a meeting the day after a practice/game to allow for their emotions to settle down.

  • If a conflict cannot be resolved between parents and the head coach, an additional meeting will be set up with the President, coaching staff, and parents.
