PAL warrior Travel Teams
“A” TEAMS
The Warwick PAL Warriors field one competitive travel “A” team per grade for boys and girls in grades 3–8. Players are selected through a competitive tryout process by the coaching staff and independent evaluators. Evaluations consider each player’s attitude, effort, commitment to the team, fundamental basketball skills, conditioning, and prior playing experience. Each team will consist of approximately 8–9 players, with final roster size determined by the head coach based on the needs of the team.
ABOUT THE “A” TEAMS:
Teams practice twice a week.
Teams participate in approximately 20-25 total games, which include 11-12 Metro West League regular-season games, 3-4 RIYBA/out-of-state tournaments, and the Rhode Island State and New England Championships.
Players are expected to attend all practices and games.
Players must consider WYB travel as their primary team during the winter season, except for a school-affiliated team.
Coaches must develop each player and their team in a competitive environment.
Playing time will vary from player to player (see minimum playing time minutes by grade in our FAQs) and is based on performance and specific team needs.
Warwick PAL aims to have a “B” team for grades 3-8 based on interest and availability of coaches. The coaching staff has a minimum of 9 total players.
ABOUT THE “B” TEAM:
Teams will practice twice a week.
Teams participate in approximately 16-20 total games, which include 10-11 regular-season games in the “B-Division” of the Metro West League, 3-4 RIYBA tournaments, and the Rhode Island State Championships.
Players and family members must balance the practice/game schedule around other teams and/or sports.
Coaches are instructed to focus on individual player development, basic skills, and teamwork.
Playing time is “relatively” equal but will vary based on performance and commitment level.
